I have a 1 year old Mini Dachshund who this past october was neutered. No he has a problem with taking a leak when he gets excited, gets a bath, plays, unknown reasons. Is there something that can be done other than going to the vet. I am not rich and this poor dog cost me lotsa money before, because he is also a parvo survivor.

Sounds like excitement and submissive urination. You are just going to have to change how you perceive yourself to the dog. Look at these links on how.

If this doesn't help then he may have a urinary tract infection in which a vet will have to be seen.

Did the urinary problem start after he was neutered? I'd ask the vet about it if this is the case. There could be a health problem.

If it's not a physical problem, perhaps he just needs some crate training or the like. Also, he is a small dog and has a small bladder; make sure he gets plenty of opportunities to relieve himself outdoors.

my 2 year old lab mix had a "leaking problem" - she would just go when she was sleeping or whenever. It was like she couldn't control it. we took her to the vet and they treated her for a small urinary tract infection. we got rid of that but she was still going on the furniture. it turns out, she has a problem with her sphincter muscle. she has to take pills for the rest of her life that only cost $26 for a two month supply . . .

Your probably going to have to take him in anyway to get him tested just to rule out an infection. I would call first and ask if it could be a side effect of the surgery that is temporary. If not he may need meds to help so he doesn't leak. My female as she got older has to take a med called Proin to strenghten her bladder. But start out with a phone call to your vet first.

i also have a parvo survivor and the cost is definitely high. the only thing you can do is take him out more or buy lots of doggie diapers. more people use them than you'd think.
