You didn't tell us what state you live in, which would help in this case.
If you live in TX, CA, AZ or NM, there's a good chance your auto insurance carrier (if it's a large, national carrier) provides coverage for short, infrequent excursions to Mexico. You can refer to your policy or call your agent.
If you live outside those states, travel in Mexico is usually specifically excluded. Some (very few) companies will allow you to endorse the policy to provide coverage outside the US, but you'll need to contact your company to see if that's something they offer.
Be careful driving in Mexico. Americans are often automatically "at fault" when involved in accidents south of the border.
