The term "kung fu" usually refers to Chinese kung fu, the training of body, mind and spirit, so the answer is probably somewhere in China. But no one really knows, very ancient, could be from India.
Bruce Lee is probably the biggest. Jet Li is pretty big too, especially his old, half shaved head ponytail movies.
