Cow milk - in fact all cow dairy products (sour cream, cheese, yogurt) - are not really good for anyone. Cow's milk contains a lot of Casein and Casein is very sticky (that is why there is a cow on the Elmer's bottles - it's sticky because of cow's milk) and can gum up the works, making digestion and absorbtion of nutrients difficult. It is the leading factor in childhood ear infections too.

Goat milk is great for people and so is Rice milk (we used Meyenberger Goat milk for our kids when they were babies, and I use Rice Dream for myself) - but soy has it's own host of problems and I don't think we should have it in our diets at all. I have heard good things about Almond milk, but i have not tried that.

Peace!

Milk in whatever form can be a good source of calcium which is needed by everyone. Cows milk naturally has calcium in it but it also has fat (unless you use skim), hormones and cholesterol which some people are trying to avoid. Goats milk has a strong taste and smell but also contains cholesterol and fat. Soy milk if fortified has as much calcium as milk. It has no cholesterol and can be consumed in the same manner as cow's milk. I have had it on cereal, baked with it and drank it by the glassful and found that it is a good substitute for milk.

Some people can't tolerate cow's milk because of the lactose in it. However, goat's milk, soy milk, and milk like Lactaid (without lactose) can be tolerated. The goat milk and soy milk, though, take some getting used to, regarding taste.
