My friend once told me that he had a friend who was in the academy and one of the arrest techniques they taught him was to walk towards and step on the suspect's foot. When you step on that suspect's foot, their normal and usual reaction would be to push you off, which the police can then charge you with "assaulting a police officer". Or something to that effect, I forgot all the details but my question is: Does the academy teach you shady techniques such as these?

So apparently a lot of people do not believe this happens which sounds about right. Obviously the academy would deny allegations such as these. They say it does not exist... like quotas... =P but we ALL know beat officers have monthly ticket quotas to make... or does it just so happens that around the end of each month, the amount of tickets given out skyrockets... ;)

I have been to several academies over the 35 yrs. and not one time had anyone ever taught us such things.
There are a few officers out there that would and will do something to provoke someone to "assualt" them-----not all of us.

I am a Police Officer from Asian country, I am very certain no Police Academy in any countries will teach such techniques. It's not easy to make an arrest. Beside the potiential of being attracked, there are also several works need to be done. Such as making of arrest report, recording of statement, medical examination (for assault cases), being a witness in Court and etc. Thus, no Police Officer will make a unnecessary arrest unless a crime is committed.

The old "friend of a friend" source. We live in such a litigious society that any "training" such as you describe would have been exposed by now. That is not to say that this may have happened as an isolated incident. But taught in an academy? Never.

I have never heard of this tactic you were told by your friend about his friend, regarding a tactic in a police academy to provoke a suspect into assaulting them. After all, why would a cadet want to learn how to get a suspect to attack officers?Police cadets are trained to DEFUSE a situation not try to make a situation escalate. Sounds fishy to me......My officer friends have NEVER told me of such tactics as you named being used in the academy here.

What kind of question is that? No police officer is trained to provoke anyone. We don't know what the suspect may be carrying as far as weapons. I'm not going to purposely step on someones foot and hope they don't have a gun to shoot me with. Police officers are taught safe ways to apprehend for the safety of ourselves and the suspect.

This kind of thinking blows me away. Do you have any idea how difficult it is to gain entry into any police/sheriff academy? The tests you must take...mental, psychological, and physical?
Our officers have to put up with a lot of harassment. Particularly from this recent 18-25 year old generation who think they are "entitled."
The recruits are trained long and hard on how to defuse a situation that could escalate. They are also taught how to do this without getting themselves caught in the middle of the fracas.
Give our people in blue (or brown) some credit. I couldn't do their job.

I don't know if they do... but it would not surprise me.
I was provoked by a police officer... who did put his hands on my shoulder... and pushed me to the ground for no good reason.
I realised immediately that he wanted me to resist because he was piss off at me and needed an excuse... So I did not buy into it.
The reality is that the police cannot be touch physically by a citizen under any circonstance. You have to obey them no matter what... you can take them in court later on... but even that is not a good idea... as they will comeback at you later on and set you up on anything they can.
Best policy is not to have anything to do with the police.

for sure a criticism replaced into made. Police do not in simple terms ensue on a doorstep. someone has made the police conscious that they imagine there is kinfolk attack, it truly is why they check out.
