Yes squeaking from a transmission just doesn't sound right. I would have someone check it out. I would check the local salvage yard for one. If it were mine, I would rebuild it and run it. If it costs about 500 bucks to run it for another 13 or 14 years, you are still ahead of the game!

As far as all of the crap about Dodge making bad transmissions, they had problems (all mfgs do) and figured them out. Most of the bad press came from ignorance of owners and mechanics installing the incorrect fluid in the transmissions. I have owned Dodges all my life, followed the manufacturers recommendations for service and repairs and have never had any problems. I wouldn't buy anything else. But that's my opinion. As far as bad trannys go, I truly think GM has that one covered quite well. 700r4, th440,

I have a 1992 Dodge Dakota RWD with V8 and Automatic Trans. While I have to admit I had the tranny replaced 3 years ago, the current one is doing fine and has 35,000 miles on it. I had a re-manufactured tranny put in. The tranny was from Hughes Performance. It has been extremely solid so far and I beat on it every day and I also race the truck on the weekends.
Now, I have to tell you it was not cheap. A re-man tranny cost the same as a new one ( about $2000 ). But I trust Hughes Performance they have been in the transmission business for 30 years.

Run it by a local shop and ask them to verify the problem. In 50 years of working on automatics of any kind I have never heard one squeak. Since the insides are supposed to be filled with fluid, there is very little likelihood it is the transmission squeaking.
It might be a u-joint, or some other part of the driveline.

That is the Main and only reason I've stayed away from Dodge products. If I were you I would pull my tranny and take it to the Dodge house and have them rebuild it and if money was no object I would purchase a new tranny and have them rebuild that right out of the gate, because if it's Dodge it will run forever, but not up hill. Good Luck
