There is an atheist who posts questions and answers on here regularly who describes herself as an "evangelical atheist". I did not make this up.

Of course. Atheism is also a faith belief. Therefore it is a religion. You see they have a faith that something came form nothing and became everything. You need a lot of faith to believe that stuff.

No, it cannot be considered a religion. "Evangelical atheists" use the definition of the word "evangelical" to mean "marked by ardent or zealous enthusiasm for a cause". If you google "evangelical atheist" you will find a few sites that explain this.

I think that it is an unfortunate choice of word in that it causes confusion and leads to questions like this one.

adjective

1. Also, e·van·gel·ic. pertaining to or in keeping with the gospel and its teachings.
2. belonging to or designating the Christian churches that emphasize the teachings and authority of the Scriptures, esp. of the New Testament, in opposition to the institutional authority of the church itself, and that stress as paramount the tenet that salvation is achieved by personal conversion to faith in the atonement of Christ.
3. designating Christians, esp. of the late 1970s, eschewing the designation of fundamentalist but holding to a conservative interpretation of the Bible.
4. pertaining to certain movements in the Protestant churches in the 18th and 19th centuries that stressed the importance of personal experience of guilt for sin, and of reconciliation to God through Christ.
5. marked by ardent or zealous enthusiasm for a cause.

–noun

6. an adherent of evangelical doctrines or a person who belongs to an evangelical church or party.

An evangelical atheist could be considered as having a religion that denies the validity of all other religion, kind of like how anarchy tries to enforce the lack of laws.

An evangelical atheist MIGHT be someone who tries to get people to leave their silly old faith-based beliefs behind and see some sense.

I've bagged five now since I've been on R&S! Who else has been reeling them in?

FYI, Muslims DO have faith that Islam is what the Christian faith replaced into meant to grow to be. they have faith that God exceeded down the Torah and the Bible to the individuals, then God despatched the Koran (with the aid of Muhammad) simply by fact the Bible and the Torah had grow to be distorted regardless of the incontrovertible fact that undesirable translations and with the aid of guy changing the words of them. The Koran helps lots of the properly properly-known memories of the bible, different than for the undeniable fact that they have faith Jesus replaced right into a prophet born to the Virgin Mary fairly than the son of God. "while Muhammad replaced into despatched, the unique Tawraat (Torah) and Injeel (Bible) had already been altered and distorted. Allaah revealed the Qur’aan to His Prophet Muhammad, and warranted that He Himself could shelter it, as He says: “Verily We: this is We who've despatched down the Dhikr (i.e., the Qur’aan) and positively, we are able to shelter it from corruption.” [al-Hijr 15:9] i don't in all probability have a remark approximately whether Evangelicals could evaluate it authentic regardless of the incontrovertible fact that.

Hardly. It just means that the atheist goes around spreading the news about atheism. That hardly qualifies as a religion .

I think its just a way for her to argue on both sides of the religious spectrum. She probably is here for a good debate rather than to spread her beliefs, which is perfectly cool.

Evangelism is simply the fervent advocation of something, and has no necessary connection to religion.

It just means using the bible as evidence AGAINST Christianity.
