i'm sorry i don't comprehend the full scope of your question. what's with the 40 days?! dead appearing?!?!? the only thing i will stand firm upon is that in regards to unfinished business -- some people will not die, even when their bodies are trying to shut down due to unfinshed business.

Christ was on Earth for 40 days after His Resurrection. That's why the Church witnesses that there is a special period of time (40 days) after a person falls asleep in the Lord.

Dead don't just appear. There are recorded cases of appearance of Saints. But that happens regardless of 40 day period. Saints have reached the Heaven and have become a part of the future, the 8th day, the eternity.
