If you currently have insurance on another car, you should be covered driving the car you purchase home, like when you drive a rental car. However, if you already have the car picked out, you can get the VIN# and get the car insured starting on the day you make the purchase.

If you know what kind of car you are getting, it is a good idea to give your insurance company a call and get a quote, so you won't be surprised with a big insurance bill.

You get the car first. The insurance rate is based on the type of car you own, suv vs.sports car etc. Good Luck with the car !!

I would get quotes & figure out what company you are going to go with. Then, when you are at the dealer all you have to do is call your insurance place & tell them to activate it. You don't want to spend an hour at the car dealership trying to get an insurance policy. You may want to try getting a quote online. I am paying less than ½ of what I was before.

You need the VIN# and information about the car first before you can insure it. So you have to buy the car first.

The insurance agency usually factors in the year make and model of the car in your quote. For instance if you were buying a new corvette your insurance will be higher than if you buy a 1970 toyota pickup.
