I found some heads for a decent price and was wandering what all I would have to do to the 289 to put the heads on. All your help is appreciated greatly. Thanx. -Dustin-

Note: those who say you can't put 351C heads on a 289 or a 302 don't know what they are talking about! 351W or Boss 302 heads can also be used. The 351C heads require the most mods, such as plugging certain water passages. The 351W is the least complicated but the C heads will outflow all but the Boss heads. Check with a local speed/head shop for more info.

That would be a cleavor motor. It would be easier to do a 302 crank with the 3.00 stroke because the pistons would be stock boss 302. Or you could get a special set made for about $600. You need to have the water holes welded up and new ones drill on the intake side of the heads. Then you need a "Track Boss" intake for about $450 . The Boss 302 motor didn't start making power until it reached 5000 rpm. Its not a good 1/4 motor , and if you dont have a place that you can maintain 7500rpm , you will be disapointed.

Ford Motor Sports is selling Boss 302 crate motors for about 5 grand.

I've never heard of 289 heads on a 351? I know you can put 400 heads on a 351 and increase the Horse power with the bigger Valves but what would be the point of installing 289 heads on a 351 Windsor? I don't believe any of the water and oil ports would line up first of all,but I've never thought to try that. The only thing I can come up with is that you have a 351 and can't afford to have the 351 heads rebuilt so you're going to go with the set of 289's that have sitting since 69 and install them. Well good luck

I had looked into this several years ago.trying to turn my 302 into a real "Boss", found out some of the water ports in the heads have to be blocked off . It will take some machine work to do this . the best advice run this idea by a local machine shop. I know that paw (performance auto warehouse) use to offer the intake manifold to make this conversion

you can't put 351c heads on a 289. You can put 351w heads on a 289 as these are both windsor small block engines. the c stands for cleveland.

351 Cleveland heads will not fit 302 Windsor. They are totally different engines.

you don't want to do this, it takes a lot of machine work and welding, it was called the Clevor. just trade them for some 351 Windsor heads.and they will bolt on. :(

need jba pistons for canted valves, the heads need the water jacket at head drilled, and a water jacket blocked for water into intake, and a jba intake. its a great conversion.
