Ah, but they are FIRST HAND accounts of what Jesus taught. Those writers of the New Testament walked and talked with Jesus every day, were there for His miracles and heard everything He preached.....
there are no writings of Jesus because God, in His infinite Wisdom, inspired others to write about Him.
Jesus was a bit busy His last few years......

I'm Jewish. I don't follow any writings of Jesus.
The answer is that the Christian religion was actually started a long time after Jesus's death by Paul. He collected the writings of the apostles, who took notes on Jesus's teachings and wrote letters to places speaking about his teachings, and started the Christian religion.

Good. A person must test any teaching by finding out if it's true or not. What good is something if you can never prove the "truth" of it? Then it is nothing but a "belief" no matter how many people "believe" it. The "truth" is within you, study those teachings, practice being still and one day "you" will "know" the "truth" and the "truth" will set you "free".

Think about it... Jesus didn't have money. In fact, He preached to his disciples to go with the clothing on their backs and that's it. Writing instruments were for the wealthy. Also... teaching, like the North American Indians, was done my verbal instruction.

Why didn't socrates write anything, all was written by his student Plato. The great ones don't need to write. Preaching is much more effective by reaching out to huge audiences who are willing to listen.

It doesn't matter if they are second hand. They are great teachings don't you think? Even if you're atheist, you should be ok with teaching love one another and take care of one another, compassion, etc. no matter who wrote it.

It's because they don't have any firsthand teachings. They have to make do with stories made up decades after Jesus died, if he existed at all.
