a tank measures 80ft long 30ft wide and 20ft deep. if 100,000 gallons of water is pumped into the tank how much would the level of the tank rise?

1 US gallon = 231 cubic inches = 1.604 cubic feet

80 X 30 =2400 that's 2400 square feet for every 1 foot of height
20 X 2400 = 48000 cubic feet in the tank.

231 cubic inches per gallon of water

12 X 12 X 12 = 1728 cubic inches per cubic foot

1728 divided by 231 = 7.48 gallons per cubic foot

7.48 X 2400 = 17952 gallons per each foot of height

100000 divided by 17952 = 5.57 feet rise in the tank

first of all find out the volume of the tank (length times width times height) 80*30*20 = 48,000. that's how many cubic feet of water your tank holds, now convert cubic feet to gallons.

1 gal = 231cu.in. = 0.134cu.ft
vol of tank = 80x30x20 = 48,000cu.ft.
converting:
100,000gals = 13,400cu.ft.

from tank dimensions, depth of water on the tank will be:

h = 13,400cu.ft/(80ft x 30ft)
h = 5.58ft or 5ft 7in

or by ratio & proportion:

h = (13400cu.ft. / 48,000cu.ft) x 20ft,
h = 5.58ft or 5ft 7in
