Any brandname charger will work fine but you may want one that can charge the battery in about 10-20 minutes. The best rechargeable battery right now is the Rayovac rechargeable Hybrid battery. It last longer than Alkaline, won't loose charge for a long time when not in use, fully charged out of the box and doesn't cost more than other rechargeable battery.

there are different types of batteries (and the prices depend on which type). Probably the best ones for everyday heavy duty use would be Ni-mh(nickle metal hydride) they're more expensive than the old but more common NI-cad (nickle cadium) types. How long the charge lasts depend on the capacity, written in terms of milli-ampere hours (mAH). again, this is price sensitive as a 2500mAH battery would cost more than those rated at 1800 mAH.
i'm using sanyo batteries. hope this helps you
