The price for entry is based on your affiliation. If your a pro, a member of the USGA or have qualified in the past. The rates for an amateur havent gone up much. The qualifying round costs around $150 and each subsequent round has a cost associated with it. Your best bet is to look at the USGA website.

The reason for the open, is that it is open. You just have to have a handicap of 2 or better in the USGA I believe. There are 3 tournaments you have to go through before the actual open. I think they are Sectionals, Regionals and Finals. Once you make it past those 3 tourny's, a sponsor will more than likely foot your bill for the big one if you'll wear their hat.

After all, this is why it is called the U.S. Open.

Good Luck if you try, and where are you from? I might see you there.

To play in the Open you must already be a really good golfer. You must play in (and do well in) at least two qualifying tournaments to enter the US Open as a contestant.
