I am snowed in and have two eggs. They are looking pretty good, but their date is Nov21. What is the rule of thumb for eggs? If they smell ok are they ok to cook with?

Submerge them in water. If they float throw them out. If they stay on the bottom they are good. Really!

Eggs are usually considered good for a month. However, if they look good when the shell is gone and they smell good, they will not hurt you.

This really is a legitimate test to see if they are good or bad.
If they kind of float half-way between, I wouldn't risk it- throw it out.

No! I extend expiration dates a bit, but not like that. If you're really in doubt, do a float test first. If it floats, it's bad. But I wouldn't risk it.
