I have two boys 17 mos. and 3. I'd like an older sitter but some parents tell me younger is better. They are more interested in playing with the kids and less interested in boys, the phone, computer etc.

I understand what they are saying, but with careful screening, you can find an older sitter who will play just as much. Considering your boys' ages, I'd have an issue with a young sitter, two.

When screening sitters, just ask them what they plan to do while they're in your home. If they answer, "Clean, do my homework, etc." then it would be a no-go. If they give ideas of how to entertain your little ones, then they get the job. Just my opinion. Good luck in finding a good one.

I have this same problem. WHO CAN YOU TRUST?
I feel that under 15 is too young they can't even drive!!! Would they know what to do in an emergency.
in my opinion someone around the age of 17 or older and someone I can trust. Maybe call the sitter's mother and ask her a couple of questions to get a feel for her family and their values, after all their your children. Is the sitter responsible?
Right now I only use my family members to watch my kids but sometimes they are busy or sometimes we (the whole family) is at the same function and I need and outsider. Therefore I take adivce from other people that I trust to give lend me their sitter if their anygood.
Best of luck! You can never be too careful about who watches your children!

Hi. I'm Alyssa. I have been babysitting since I was 11. I am now 21. and, I still babysit. I think Younger is ok, as long as you dont go too young. If it makes you feel more comfortable, set up an interview process for all the sitters you have been considering, or you can look into a nanny cam. You just want someone you can trust. I like to bring along things to do with the kids, like crafts, games, movies, etc... Just be smart about it, and careful!

I am 12 years old i am going to start babysitting when i turn 14. yes i am on the computer but when i baby sit my 13 month old cousin i am not allowed to use the phone, the computer. and yes i do have a boyfriend but i save time for him on the weekends. i could be a perfect choice for your baby sitter

some other things you should consider while choosing a babysitter is: has this person ever been to juvi. has this person ever been caught by the police for underage drinking.

you should always leave a list of allergies, doctor numbers you or you husbands cell phone in case of an emergency.

remember a person could be 25 and have the brain of a 5 year old so choose your sitters carefully

I don;t see the problem with a younger sitter between 12-14. They are more attentive to the children. if you are uneasy, invite the sitter over and watch how they interact with your child. I have a 12 year old sister and her very first baby sitting assignment was on New Year's eve. My son is 2 and he loves being around her. She plays with him and they do all inds of things together like color and draw. She did a wonderful job and she took very good care of him. She nows how to fix meals, change his diaper, and she also bathes him.

One thing that you have to remeber is that preteen and teenage sitters are more mature and more responsible these days. like I sai, invite a sitter over and watch them interact with your child. you can then determine what will work better for you.

Honestly you dont want to go by age. The sitter could be 18-20 and have the maturity of a 10 year old. Your best bet would be to find a sitter who you know well rounded, such as their backround and such. Someone you trust and can confide in for the care of your children while your not at home. I hope this is helpful for you.

It depends on the sitter and how mature the sitter is. 15 is a good age.
