I bought a sony cybershot that uses AA batteries and it eats up batteries way too quick. I was thinking of getting the AA NiMH rechargable batteries. I don't know much about rechargable batteries. How do they work? How are they recharged? Do I need to buy anything else for the recharging?

All you need is the rechargeable batteries and a recharger. It's not very expensive. Rechargeable batteries have a draw back : they loose their charge at a faster rates than regular battery when not in use. Rayovac has came up with a new kind of rechargeable battery call Rechargeable Hybrid that won't loose charge for a long time, can be use out of the box, last longer than Alkaline battery and it works with all chargers on the market. They're sold everywhere.

Go out and look for any brand of AA rechargable batteries. The 2 popular types out there are NiMH (nickel metal-hydride) and Li-iON (lithium-ion)

Make sure the charger is a 'smart battery charger'. They help in preventing overcharging when the rechargable battery is fully charged.

Both types will serve you well when used for the camera. You will get the same power like if you used regular AA batteries (energizer/duracell).

Buy 2 sets. You use one while the other set is charging.

Regular alkaline batteries get drained very quickly. Lithium batteries will last much longer. If you get rechargable batteries, you should buy it with a recharger pack.

You'll want to bring the plug-in recharger with you on any trips as the batteries could drain quickly if they don't have a full charge.
