Because a study showed that when grilling hot dogs, on average, 1.89 dogs per pack either fall through the grill into the charcoal or off the grill into the dirt. Knowing this fact, the dog companies threw in 2 extra dogs, free of charge.

Its a selling scam and packaging. Hot dogs are easy to pack in 10's and cost is not much different then a 8 pack. Bread is always a even number so if you have a odd amount of people for diner, or some eat more then others, then you are forced to buy 2 packs of rolls

Practical marketing at it's best!
Why are there 20 cigarettes in a pack, but 24 hours in a day?
Why are batteries sold in packs of 4 when your remote control car requires 6?
Why is a $30,000 car only warranteed for 100,000 miles? 3 miles per dollar? WTF?
Because companies want revenue, and the more that we buy, the more revenue they have! Why not force the consumer to purchase more!?

I don't know why, good question. Maybe because some hotdog packages have 8 hotdogs, that's probably why.

that's probably going certainly one of the main stressful issues. the different day i offered the jumbo hotdogs (%. of four) and then the hotdog rolls (%. of 6). what's the experience in that? i think of they do this so which you spend greater beneficial than you ought to, or finally end up paying for greater beneficial than you ought to. the two way, grrrrrrh! xx

So you'll have to buy 4 of one and 5 of the other to come out even.

for 20 years I have been searching the world for an answer to this question. I have consulted the Dali Lama, prayed in temples in India, and climbed the Himalayas in search of an answer. To date I am still pondering this phenomenon of mankind.
SERIOUSLY.........I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW WHY THEY DO THAT! LOL

The hot dog makers and the bread company got together and came up with a plan to make everyone ask that questions. LOL
Really, who knows why? Maybe they think we won't notice.
