Ok. I have A New Printer. Do you have to have both a black and a color ink cartridge for it to work. mine wont print and i hav the color. i know it is inserted correctly too!

you gotta disable the color cartridge...log on your computer click on printer>>>printer window...look if you see pictures of the b/w and color cartridge....I can disable mine, you should be able to do it too...many ppl do it to save on the color....if you only print out b/w anyway!

Nope, your need both cartridges. Black is used to help make some ot the colors. Look in the printer software and see if there is a color only option. Good luck

You failed to mention the make and model of your printer. Since there are hundreds of different ones out there the answer is - maybe yes, maybe no.
Best thing is to go to the manufacturers website and ask tech support. The answer is probably buried in the manual somewhere.
