Well starting a conversation is a good thing, also you need to show him how much he truly means to you as well, through being close, looking into his eyes. You cannot imagine how scary/joyous it is to look into the eyes of the one you love, knowing full well that they love you just as much or more so in return.
The hardest shell to break in a shy person's persona is their self-esteem. Excessive compliments are not exactly welcomed because they might think you are trying to patronize them, or make them feel better because you pity them.
Leave notes for him, leave your friends every once in a while and interrupt what you are doing just to be with him for a bit, it might seem strange, but it shows that you consider him to be something important in your life. Also introduce him to your friends as well, make him feel a part of the group, I think that will help you find some common ground to talk about.
There are a lot of things you can do, just keep working hard, and I am sure you will find a way through it.

from one angel to another, let me just say this. Just because a boy is jealous does not mean he loves you. You do not have to worry about the shyness. After he gets to know you really well, you won't be able to shut him up.
Most people that are shy open up to people they know they can trust. This is probably just a phase that he will out grow of in time.
just give it time.

First off try talking to him about how it bothers you. Especially if you say you really love him. It needs to be said and I'm sure it would be said from him if he wasn't so shy.
Try short conversations first. Find what he is most interested in and get him to talk that way. You'll be surprised on how fast they talk then. But keep talking on his terms until you two can really talk. But be patient it will come around. If you really love him like you say, then be patient until he can get the nerve up.

Why not try talking to him about his shyness?? Maybe there is a reason he is feeling uncomfortable or is scared of losing you when you talk to these other guys?
Let him know how much you care about him and dont want to be with someone else but you want him to be able to talk about stuff he likes to and you really dont mind him talking about stuff he likes as well. good luck.

Maybe he is just the strong silent type :)
Have you tried letting him start a conversation? Maybe you talk too much and he can't get a word in.

You don't know that he loves you. Possessive guys get jealous too, and it's not because of love. It's because they want to control you. Anyway, you might be right. Maybe he does love you. Try asking him questions about things he likes. Eventually he'll become comfortable talking about anyhing.
