Hinduism is a polytheistic religion. Although, many Hindus will tell you it is One God with many avatars or aspects of the deity like in Christianity. The central god is Vishnu. He is the creator and is continually challenged by Kali the destroyer. There are many other deities in the pantheon. For the most part Hinduism is a religion of passivity, like Buddhism. The cultural milieu is so passive that at times it leads to social problems (much like the Manana culture in South and Central America. ) The "Object" if you want to call it that is to escape a (seemingly) unending cycle of birth and rebirth (Moksha) which always leads to suffering. The way to do this is to become as detached as possible from the thin veil of worldly temptation (Maya) that keeps one forever on the wheel of rebirth. One of the ways to detachment which will lead to enlightenment is prayer and meditation. Hindu meditation is almost like a science and is called Yoga. There are many forms of Yoga and meditation: Hatha Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Shakti Yoga, Transcendental Meditation and so forth. Hindus have a very close relationship with their spiritual guides which they refer to as gurus. For more information check out: pantheon of Hindu Gods, Krishna, Ganesha, Hanuman etc.

Hinduism is way of life. it has faith that we all r connected to god be an invisible thread one end is connected to us and one to the supreme. when u pray with concentration the connection is set up and u get help from the supreme.u feel lonely when u forget that supreme companion!
