If you think it is too soon, it probably is. You need to have a really good idea of who you are and what you like. Many times that means living on your own and experimenting with how you want to decorate, spend your time, your money etc. You need to have discussed all the big issues with the person- kids, family, morals, religion, money, goals, credit etc, and discuss the little things too- does he expect you to cook every night, have sex at the drop of a hat, who's going to wash dishes, take the trash out, cut the grass, will he mind if you work, etc. You need to know as much as possible before committing to spending the rest of your life with someone.

It's too soon when you don't know for sure that he's the guy you want to marry. I think you also have to be in the relationship for a while to know that... my b/f asked me to marry him after we'd been together for 4 years. Right now, it's a year later, and we're still just engaged (because I'm in college still). So even if you do get engaged, you can take it as slow as you want... just make sure the guy is the one you want to be with.

this depends sometimes you just know and it's OK no matter how fast it is and then other times people will rush it just because they are in love with the idea of a wedding not the other person

I wouldn't say there's a set time. It's whenever you both feel ready and you want that. :) So that could be one week, one year, 5 years whatever :)
