parents who didn't want to deal with their bratty kids all the time. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/School#History_and_development_of_schools for more info on the history of schools.
Good luck!!!

Schools have been around for a very long time, certainly from the time of the ancient Greeks and Romans, as long ago as 600 B.C. Until the twentieth century really only the wealthy could go to school, because schools were very expensive, and children from poor families had to go to work everyday so they could have enough to eat. Often school happened at home with tutors in those days, rather than as a community affair.
The sad part about your question is that there are millions of children and young people all over the world who would love to have your opportunity to go to school instead of struggling everyday for survival.

Years ago, few people knew how to read, write and add. If someone did learn how, they taught more people. From those days, school became a part of life--as most people do not want to be totally ignorant.
If you had never gone to school, you wouldn't have been able to write your question, or read your answers. You wouldn't know how much change to get from a store, or be able to read the prices on items you want.

Schools initially started in Prusia known as volkshule, this forced schooling was forcibly laid on intelligent children to make them mere followers and obdient laboureres, soldiers, mine diggers, cerlks etc.
The training of making dumbo people and people who would not think critically and oppose anything found successful. Later many countries started follwing it to produce same unrevolutionary people!
Find more in the articles of John Taylor Gatto "How they dumb us?" Unschooling our lives by "Ivan Illich",....A book called "Danger Schooling etc...

I dunno someone who decided that we're a tad bit different than most animals aside from our thumbs.
If you don't like it so much, get emancipated and move into your own box somewhere. You'll appreciate school later, but you obviously need more of it if you're asking such a stupid question.
