I have an unusual looking kitten...If it weren't for her pale blue eyes i'd say she was an albino...As shes getting older her skin is very pink and can be seen clearly through her fur, her eyes are red rimmed and her ears, paws and nose red-pink...Is she classed as an Albino and would she be prone to health problems because of her skin?

HI there...it appears you may have an albino cat, however without being able to physically see it's difficult to confirm. Albinos do have special needs as they are more sensitive to light and can be easily sunburned. Please see the following website to learn what they are and how to identify if your cat is in fact an albino cat: http://www.messybeast.com/whitecat.htm

A true albino animal or human has no pigment in their eyes and because the blood vessels are visible the eyes are pink.

I am amazed at the pinkness of the new cat I have - tips of ears and they are almost transparent. He seems to have a red rim around his eyes too. He has one blue eye and one green and is not deaf.

White cats need to kept indoors all the time. They are subject to skin cancers as are some cats with pink noses. If the cancer develops on the ears they can be removed - if it develops on the cat's nose it cannot be treated.

The incidence of skin cancer in humans has increased drastically in the last ten years. Cats are subject to the same damage from the reduction of the protective ozone layer.

She sounds like mostly albino to me. There are several different forms of albinism. For example, if both of her parents were brown, and she is not- she could have a gene blocking the brown pigment, but not the eye color pigment (blue). So, in theory, you have a brown cat, but the color can not show through. Does that make sense?
As for problems- easily sunburn and are usually more prone to vision and hearing problems.

they can get ear/nose cancer as they have no pigment in their skin so before she goes out on a sunny day put sun lotion on the tips of her ears to stop them getting burnt. There's no point on putting it on her nose as she'll lick it off.Has she had her hearing checked as some pure white cats with blue eyes can be born deaf. She could be classed as albino, the colour of kittens eyes change just like humans do as they get older so hers could change to pink.Keep an eye on her when she's in the sun, dont let her go out for very long in it as you dont want her getting burnt
