It depends on who is listening or making the descision.
People who belong to Christ will try to do everything they can to keep their parents at home with them, but then there are times that they may not be safe and the better place for them in a nursing home. They will then go daily to visit, or at least every other day.
However, there are hundreds of people who don't hesitate to put one or both parents into a nursing home, especially if they can afford it. They seldom visit and when they do they can't wait to leave.
I don't think common sense has anything to do with it. It all depends upon where a person's heart is.

Commonsense. Those that need a threat of hell or a promise of heaven to help others are a bunch of moral trash.

True common sense would dictate that elders are of no use to society as they cannot be productive, they should be left to fend for themselves like anyone else. Maybe we need religion to tell us to respect people not for what they do but for who they are.

yes we do need to be told to take care of the elderly.because some people mistreat the elderly.
