This would be done at a "Relay for Life" event held on Cinco De Mayo. I call it the "Relay Pinata". I would collect quality prizes for the Pinata and display them for people to view. The prizes would be chronicled in a list with a number assigned to each prize with the numbering remaining secret til after the Pinata has been busted. People may place bids to be allowed to participate and the Top Bidderes would be chosen. The number of participants would equal the number of prizes. When the Pinata busts each participant may pick up only one chip for redemption. Upon redemption of the chip the prize corresponding to the number on the chip will be announced. Depending on the value of the most expensive prize, a minimum bid would be determined. Does this sound fair and feasible? How much fun and excitment do you think it would generate?

As a relay for life team captain, i know this will be successful if the prizes are nice. Last year we received $750 in gift certificates from Dick's Sporting Goods. Try them!

You'll have to figure out a way that people will only redeem one chip. Also, does each person get one hit at the pinata?

I'd figure out a way that everyone can participate, not just top bidders. How about, you still use top bidders, but people who don't make it into that pool still get a prize? Like, you could set aside some of the money for those people, so that everyone who bids gets a chance at $100, even if they don't get a chance at the donated prizes?

It could be a fun event, but there's also the chance for a lot of chaos. I'd run it in a small way as a test first, maybe get try it at the local veterans hall, try busting a pinanta, see what happens. Because you also need to figure out how to do crowd control, how to protect the prizes from being taken, things like that.

This sounds great and I have done a lot of fundraisers.

I think you may have even topped the "Yellow Ducky Swim" and I think that one is too great. Ya know the little rubber duckies that swim down the river in a race.

I love trying to find new ways to raise funds. I am no longer on any boards right now so I will not steel your idea. But give it a try, just make sure you think it through on both sides of the fence. You need to elliminate any problems before you do it.

Good Luck
