Of course you're going to want to clean it very well first. You can pick up a box of trisodium phosphate (TSP) from most hardware stores. Use a diluted mixture of that and a large shop broom to scrub down the exterior, then rinse well with a hose.

Once the home is dry, use KILZ exterior primer. Kilz is amazing stuff - I once used Kilz on paint that was chipping off, thinking that I would just Kilz the good stuff and get rid of the chipping paint later. Boy, was I ever wrong! Not only did the Kilz clear up any stains on the surface, but it also re-attached the paint that was falling off!

You can get Kilz in latex or oil based formulas. The oil based has the longest lifespan, but either are truly good. For exterior, I would go with the oil based Kilz. You can have this tinted for economy's sake.

After you've used Kilz as a primer, you can use any quality exterior paint for the rest of the job. Be sure to look for a paint that has a long warranty period. If the paint discolors over time, the manufacturer (more often the store where you purchased) will at least replace the paint should it fail. With the Kilz, you probably won't live there long enough to have to see it repainted.

Best of luck!!!
