I need to know what its like to be on an anti depressent. I've had too much anxiety and nothing is helping, I've been seeing a theripest and reading self-help books, but I fear the only way is through medication. Is the medication the only reason your happy? I just need to know more about it and the results of taking it.

Sorry to hear you feel cruddie. Some people need anti-depressants. It's said to be a chemical imbalance in the brain. Wether it is or isn't a chemical thing, people need it. When you do take it, you wont wake up one day and feel any different. It takes up to 6 weeks for your body to become adjusted to the meds. It's a slow process, but pills don't "solve" the problem. Continue with self help, and try to keep a good outlook. A doctor and/or reading material can answer a lot of questions pertaining to side effects to the meds.

Hi!
I take Wellbutrin for anxiety. Before that I was taking Celexa (didn't like the side effects) Several years ago I took Zoloft for depression.

This time with meds the question wasn't was I happy or not. It was how can I make my life easier. I was injured in a car accident and got really bad anxiety while driving afterwards. The meds helped me calm down and think rationally about the problems so that I can solve them with behavioral modification. It was pretty much the same when I was treated for depression. The meds helped me focus on how to make my life better through my own actions.

I've taken anti-depressants for over 20 years. Without them, I cannot sleep, eat, go outdoors, sometimes even get out of bed--and many more things.

The good news is that with them, I am a totally different person--the best me that I can be.

Keep reading the self-help books and seeing the therapist, even when you start taking anxiety/depression meds. It takes more than just the meds alone to keep you on the straight and narrow.

My medication plays a part in my happiness, but not fully . It is mostly therepy, but the meds are there for some assistance. In a ratio, it would be 60% Therepy, 40% meds.
