I would pick royal caribbean over almost any cruise line. For me, Carnival is more of a "party cruise" at times (rowdy) I have heard this from all my friends that traveled on Carnival. Personally, I have been on Royal, Norwegian, Celebrity and Princess and will be on my 11th cruise at the end of the month. The best for me is Royal Caribbean.
Best in Service, ships, Activities on the boat, food and overall ambience.

Without a doubt, I would cruise Royal Caribbean before Carnival. I have experience with both and there is no comparison between the two. Royal Caribbean was better than Carnival in all aspects. From the check-in process at the port of Miami and the food and beverages to the entertainment Royal Caribbean was better in all aspects. You may pay a little bit more, but it's well worth it.
On Royal Caribbean, make sure to sail on one of their bigger ships. There is so much to do aboard. (Freedom or Voyager Family)

Carnival is catered to the younger party crowd and Royal Caribbean isnt as partying but its still for the younger generation, and they are both good cruise lines and I would say compare their rates and dates for the time of travel you wish to go on and just see who the better ammenities and excursions and price and thats about all but I would recommend Royal Caribbean as they tend to have more on board activities and the ships are nicer and everything even if the price is a little higher.

My personal experience has been awesome with Royal Caribbean. Problems I have had (very few) were always addressed. Carnival, on the other hand, didn't seem to care or want to try to correct a problem. Therefore, I became a stockholder in RCL I liked their service so much.

I've only been on Carnival, but from my experience the most important part isn't the company it's your room. Definitively get a room with a baloney. It makes the experience much more fun to be able to sit out, in your private deck with a glass of wine and a book right on the water.
Another place you can look for more information on the different cruise lines is cruisecritic.com. Good luck!

It all depends on the time of year. If school's out, I prefer Royal Caribbean -- less kids running amok on the ship. If school's in, I'll take Carnival.
Both are outstanding....but the Carnival is more party-minded.

I prefer Carnival. I had a problem on the first one, I told them and they corrected it and have been a loyal customer ever since.
