I'm a nurse. It could be just muscle pain. However any chest pain isn't good, see a doctor right away about this, it could in fact be serious. Take care.

Not much info to go on. How long has this been painful? Could be simply a pulled muscle. It could be bursitis over the cartilege of your upper rib cage. Do you smoke? Could be an irritation in your lungs caused from smoke. No matter what, if you've had it for a while, the longer you wait to have it looked at, the harder it may be to treat. Hope it's something minor. You will stop worring about it when a doctor tells you you're okay. You won't get that kind of relief here. Good luck.

It could very well be a result of your panic attacks. Think about what causes the pain: are you exercising when it happens? Are you stressed out? Does it occur after you eat? If it happens when you pick up something heavy, it could be a muscle strain. If it is part of your job to do heavy lifting, try to do light exercises at home to ease the muscle strain.
The next time you go to your doctor, discuss it with them. They may need to do some simple bloodwork to determine the cause of the pain.
Try not to worry too much. When you feel a panic attack coming on, try relaxation techniques (deep breathing, diversion), stretching, listening to soothing music, or talking to a friend/family member. If the pain radiates (especially to the left side), worsens, causes tingling in one arm, feels like heartburn for an extended time, or limits your activity-call your doctor right away.

there is a thing called a "silent heart attack." look it up. i had one and it damaged my heart. didn't know it for two years. then i saw a caridologist and they also found the heart was clogging up. so then i had to have a four-wary bypass. it started with pain in the middle of my chest as you desribe. family docs are useless for checking out your symptoms. need a bigtime cariologist in a bigtime heart center like the one in cleveland. there is huge differences in competence and modern equipment. get smart and look it up before. in the meantime take it easy, don't lift anything and don't get overheated. although you are young, i worked with someone your age who passed in dc airport and they had to insert pig valves immediately. then within a few months he dropped dead. he was young a truly gifted programmer although he was a big intensive fellow. listen to me.
