But in their situation, he told people that she was pregnant, before they were ready to tell people, so i dunno if he'd be able to controll himself.

The woman is the Patient, an her Doctor has to abide by her wishes. It is called; doctor-patient privilege. It is what she wants.

The doctor should follow the wishes of the mother as she is the patient. If she really doesn't want to know then she shouldn't allow the doctor to tell her husband. This is because the if he knows he will not be able to keep it a secret. The main reason people want to know is to start planning: clothing, names, nursery. If he is going to be involved in any of those decisions then she is bound to found out. Of course whatever they decide to do should be discussing before visiting the doctor's office.

Have the docter take the sex and tell the husband in private. But it is going to be hard for the husband not to say anything...I know because the same thing happened to me...I thought my husband was going to die the last 3 months...But have the husband find out towards the end...because holding the secret for 9 months is almost impossible. Either way it's his kid so he is going to love it no matter what.

We weren't sure if we wanted to know what gender our chlid would be before the birth, so this is what we did...
When we went in for the ultrasound, we let the technician know that we weren't sure we wanted to know. So, when it was time to find out, my husband and I turned our heads. Then the tech wrote down the gender on a piece of paper and sealed it in an envelop.
Now, we didn't get out of the hospital parking garage before we decided we were going to look (we managed to wait until we got home, though!). But in your cousin's case, her husband can have open the envelop and she doesn't have to be in the room.

The doctor can tell the husband in privacy while the mother turns her head from the monitor during the ultrasound to determine the sex. It may not even matter. During her one and only pregnancy, my wife and I were told we were having a girl, no a boy, then a girl, then a boy. We had a boy.
If SHE doesn't want HIM to know, then she can tell the doctor not to tell him. The patient has a right to privacy.

Well, the mom is technically the patient and the doc can't reveal anything without her consent.
Sometimes the parents might have them write the sex on a piece of paper and seal it in an envelope for later.

I guess they could call the doctor, and have them tell them over the phone. That's a hard one. I knew when I was having my son, so I wasn't surprised when they said it was a boy. I was like oh ok, I knew that. I figured next time I'll be surprised.

I've heard of the doctor writing it down and putting it in an envelope for the person who wants to know.
