Sit the baby on your lap, lean the baby forward and put the babies chin in your hand. With the baby leaning forward , gently pat him on the back. I always move my hand starting at the bottom and pat on the way up so that the gas follows upward. Also you can put the baby on your lap laying belly side down and rock him on your knees and pat his back. Another way is put him in your chest and burp him. I know burping is great but with my last son he rather not be burped, he hated being patted on the back and he never got a tummy ache.

I take it you are familiar with the way we all used to burp the babies. The old over the shoulder hold. The only thing I can think of is breast fed babies don't burp as much as our kids did. Enjoy your little pride and joy!

circular motions work best so far...patting doesnt really do anything...
when ur hand is at the bottom of there back push a little bit harder like ur trying to push the burp up...it works and it sometimes soothes them to sleep

You can sit them up propped on your leg, holding there head under their chin with your hand. Then massage their back in an upward position, or taping on their back. Some people tap to lightly don't be afraid you wont hurt them, just don't beat them.

Try a combo of rubbing his back and lightly patting it.
