With President Bush wanting to send more troops and the Pentagon wanting 92,000 more troops, does this mean a draft is possible in the future?

I am just wondering what can be done so they achieve the number of soldiers and keep high reserves.

Recruitment goals are being surpassed, and the military is currently at about 5 million men strong right now. This younger generation (mine included) see 3000 casualties as a big number, and the number of troops in Iraq of 210,000 or so as being most of the military. This is not the case. The casualty rate of this war has been remarkably low, probably the least deadly war in history. In WWII, more soldiers died PRACTICING for the normandy invasion than have died in Iraq so far. A soldier is more likely to get gunned down by someone on the streets of Washington DC than get gunned down in Iraq.

Don't let anybody fool you. There are a lot of teeny boppers on here that don't realize how real that threat really is. If Iran or Syria so on gets involved in this war it will take 100's of thousands of soldiers from the US to fight and I'm not talking about 100,000 or 200,000. We'll be looking at the possibility of 500 to 600 thousand.

Avatar - If the troops have it so easy, then you go. And no, I won't believe it if you say you have. Those that care about our young men in service want them home, not fighting a war when they are being lied to about its purpose and goals. A draft under these conditions? Hell, no!

Enlistments are down. Ask any recruiter. So the chances of a draft, i think are very likely. It may be the only choice. The younger generation doesn't want to fight someone else's war, and the prospect of paid tuition isn't enough to risk their lives.

Enlistments are down, because cowardice is up.

So now it's 92,000 ? NO. It's 20,000. Quit watching CNN. A draft means a fresh supply of bodies to send out to do battle against the Taliban and Al Qaeda. Something I approve of !

Zero unless there is a major war,if there is a draft there will be people in the streets, like the 60 again. If they raise the pay and give them benefits the voluntary army will be there. As we become more a third world country, our days in the sun are about over,so don't worry about a draft.China and Russia will be taking over the job of world police soon.

There is a possibility of a draft because aside from the Iraq war, invasions of Iran and North Korea are being planned.

I have a feeling if they do decide to implement the draft again they will call up women as well as men this time around. Can't discriminate based on gender.

Only Al Sharpton (Democrat) has talked
the draft up. Republicans are against it.
