Hypothyroidism slows down your metabolic rate, so your not burning enough calories and people almost always gain weight while having this conditon. The only way to lose weight while being hypothyroid, is to make sure your energy expendenture is more than your intake, which can be accomplished through exercise; however, it is very difficult as I'm sure you know that with hypothyroidism, comes being tired all the time and low energy levels.
But now that you got your levels balanced (I assume your taking Synthroid, Eltroxin or some other kind of thyroid hormone), your metabolism will return to normal and you should be able to lose weight a lot easier because your body burns more calories and you should have more energy to do things.
Just give it some time, and with excercise and a healthy diet, you should do fine.
Good luck!

i know what ur going thru ! i was actually quite thin most of my life, untill my hypothyroid problem started.the extra weight came on quite rapidly, and it was a terrible shock,as i was/am regularly physically active.i am currently having some success walking to work,on all but the most inclement days.thats about 3 and a half miles, round trip,5 days a week.still,it is a struggle and the weight does not come off easily.at least its not still going up!!!! i feel ur frustration ,tho.i feel that for the amount of work i put into it,i should be thinner-its not just walking, its being active on the job and doing daily chores/housework as well!best of luck, all i can say is keep at it.u will lose, but not as rapidly as b4 hypo, thats where the frustration comes in.its doable, but not dramatic.just dont give up!take care!

Yes. I have lost weight in the past. But put it back on when I got depressed for awhile. Now after 10 years or more, I'm another 100 lbs heavier. So it's a constant battle....and all UPHILL. But! I'm ready to get started at it again.
RIght now I"m having problems with edema in my feet and legs. But if the Dr gives me the go ahead, I'm going to start working out on a treadmill and a bicycle on a regular basis. I wish I had a treadmill in my home....and a trainer to crack a whip!
