I think it depends on what kind and how many you drink. If you binge on non alcoholic beer it is a problem, however if you enjoy a glass of non alc wine or beer with dinner it is OK...
Have you ever read James Frey's "A Million Little Pieces"
It has a funny blurb about a recovered alcoholic who drinks too much non alc beer. It seems funny in the book, but in real life it can be serious.
How long have you been sober? If it hasn't been a long time (more than a year) I would hold off on the non alc beverages. They may make you crave the real thing.

I assume you mean non-alcohol beer.
Because Water, tea, coffee, Coca-cola, and orange juice are all non-alcoholic beverages.
Non-alcohol beer is really about 0.5% alcohol and usually not completely alcohol free! The brewing process creates alcohol, the majority but not all of which is then removed. I know that an alcoholic can never have "Just one scotch" for example, but is that small amount of alcohol going to trigger other behavior? If the non-alcoholic stuff runs out will you switch to real beer? Will you grab bottles of beer by mistake, and then start thinking you can handle it?
I suppose you could try it, and if it leads to bad behavior then you know you can never try that again. After all your "days sober" is an acknowledgment of accomplishment and not a scorecard.
However! If you have any doubt ... better to not tempt fate!
Non-alcohol sparking beverages that imitate wines should be ok since they are basically carbonated grape juice.

I am trying to quit. Been drinking heavily for years. I am also looking at going with non-alcoholic beverages too. I don't think it would be a bad choice. Just as long as we don't slip up and go back to the real thing. I am unsure as to what the best non-alcoholic beer is though.

My DH is a recovered alcoholic and he prefers to drink Diet Coke at a bar. That way there is no room for mistakes. We don't go to a bar very often. The last time was in a 12th step visit. You may want to visit with your sponsor about this if you are in a 12 step program. If you are asking around until you get the answer you want, you may want to look at your motives. Remember, drinking alcohol is just a symptom of a spiritual malady. (straight out of the Big Book) Changing your actions is a big part of staying sober. I don't mean to sound like I'm on a high horse. I just hate seeing people having to change their dates, or worse, never stopping drinking again.

I know this one.
Actually......I believe it's encouraged for ALL recovering alcoholics to drink the non-alcoholic beverages exclusively.......They've found through various studies that it generally keeps everyone concerned safer and happier. Good luck!

It probably won't help. It will just make you long for the real thing. But there is only one way of trying. Another thing is most non alcoholic beer doesn't taste good. Getting a "virgin" drink is like getting a slushy.

recuperating type a dependancy is often an exceedingly complicated factor. It has MANY psychological factors to it. Iv i had take a knowledgeable wager. No. What may well be the component? If its for the style it could purely reason her to start ingesting returned and yearning greater. the biggest to overcoming a dependancy is to handle the reason for it, if she remains attempting to type off come across a loop hollow then the concern could no longer be regarded after out and non alcoholic will purely be a gateway to alcohol.

I'd say no if it is a " near beer " or virgin mixed drink, just because the temptation is to great, essentially your still drinking and the chances of falling off the wagon as it were are significantly much greater. Id steer clear, but again that's my personal thought. Good luck in your sobriety!!

I say yes. When you're out with your friends for your usual Margarita night, sipping on water doesn't sound like a blast. Order a virgin......as long as you stick to just that.
Having virgin drinks of the ones you used to drink might even build up your will power.
Congratulations!

I'm assuming you mean virgin drinks of the ones you used to drink. I will stay say no, the temptation to go to the "real Deal" would be to much, don't even go to where you used to drink at, find a different hobby and do that instead of drinking.
