Remember that in no time she will be a teen and her tastes will change dramatically!! I suggest talking to her about what styles she likes. Explain that in a few years she will have different interests and maybe talk about things she might start getting into. Sports, music, plays, etc. This will give you an idea of weather or not to totally revamp her room, or do it little at time, as she grows. Teenage-hood is a crazy time. I would stay away from anything that will look little-girly (pastels, flowers, butterflies) She still may like those things in a few years, but it is risky.
There is a cool web site with teen bedding, she may not be ready for it yet, but it's worth checking out.

Otherwise I suggest bright bold colors, even neon or hot colors. She may like some posters. Aly & Aj, Vanessa Hudgens. If you get posters put them in frames, it makes them look 100% better, its an innexpensive way to fill up space on a wall. Teens are clutter freaks, maybe make a poster sized collage of clips from a magazine ( could be words, phrases, pictures, etc.) then frame it. Street signs and neon signs are cool too. Find a cool lamp too. Lamps are really in right now.
Whatever you do make sure she is helping pick things out.
This is a fun time to redo a room, have fun, and good luck. What a fun mom are!!

I would suggest that you sit down with the preteen, and discuss their ideas, colors that they like, and the style that they want to incorporate into the room.

Another idea is for them to do a drawing of the room, then take the preteen to Lowe's/HomeDepot to pick out the color(s) that they want to use in the room. There is a great place at Home Depot where you can design a room by picking the paint colors....(this is wonderful so you can avoid the usual "why can't I use THAT color...!" argument)

By using some of the ideas, the preteen is more apt to be happy and willing to work on the room.

Every kid has their own tastes. I'm not sure what Roxy is, but if your kid likes it, then go for it! Most kids are very interested in colors, and for each child it's different.

Discuss with the child or children what their favorite colors are, and perhaps even what their favorite patterns are. Use that to decide the colors for the room.

For furnishings, check our Ikea, it's a great store and has reasonable prices for really good merchandise. Just remember, kids are kids, so the resale value of the super-expensive race-car shaped bed won't be so high at a yardsale.

Let the preteen decorate it, and stop micro-managing your kid's life. Is your own life so empty and void of content that you have to meddle in your kid's affairs?
