IQ doesn't change with age, so there is no standard score for a particular age (although there are a number of tests, and you might find that if you were to take another test, your score would be different). The average is 100, so someone with an IQ over 120 is of above-average intellect, and someone with an IQ under IQ is of below 80 is of below-average intellect. Usually, 142 falls into the range of those considered "gifted".

Surely!
In fact he can have any IQ imaginabale. But 140 is going to make him successful in whatever venture he chooses. The problem with being smart is that you could probably be good at many things and decideing which thing is sometimes hard. They keep changeing majors , or they have 2 majors. But emotionally the smart kid is just like any other kid . He wants to be normal and fit in. You'll fit in if you just remeber that other people cannot help being boreing. Just pretend your intrested in them . seek out other bright people- who are often older than you.
Your aware of more and probably more sensitive. So be choosy what you do, where you go .
142 is high IQ. 100 is normal.
To give you an idea my son's IQ is in your range. At age 17 -right out of high school- he got a job operateing a German bindery machine at 17$ and hour. The reason they hired him was his ability to fix that complex and dangerous machine without any training or manuals. All the machines manuals were in German. But I told him "it's dangerous." So, he got out of that job. From there he went to the auto school and is now a certified mechanic. In the high school recruiters came and he signed as a minor into the marines. I told him about the DU and the anthrax and the mercury in the innoculations. He got out of that contract. It's really important not to sell yourself short. dont just settle for something because it's easy. He is now makeing 500$ a week and nobody is shooting at him . He is still a normal, easygoing good humoured person, clever and witty. He has a smart Mom and that helps too. But just to let you know- he regularly gives me advice on things and he can do that because he has a high IQ, part of which is social intelligence. Most kids dont give their Moms advice. But i value his insight and there is honesty and trust. So, charcter is still important even when you are smarter than other people, maybe more so.

Have a look at www.mensa.org.uk
Mensa IQ Levels ( see below for example)

IQ or Intelligence Quotient is an attempt to measure intelligence. This means many things to many people but generally the attribute of intelligence refers to quickness of mental comprehension (or mental agility). Intelligence is often confused with knowledge, wisdom, memory, or a myriad of other attributes and in general has a variety of meanings depending on the context in which it is used. The term IQ usually refers to the attempt to measure a person's mental agility.

There are many standard IQ tests in use around the world. On most intelligence tests, average IQ score is 100, but some tests give different numerical values to the level required for entry into Mensa, in the same way that the same temperature is expressed by different numerical values on the Fahrenheit and Celsius scales.
One way of comparing scores from different IQ tests is to convert them to a ranking, or percentile, score which tells you in which band you fit. A percentile score of 99% means that you are in the top 1%, a percentile score of 98% puts you in the top 2% and so on.

If you do have a high IQ I am surprised that you need to ask Answers as you should be able to search the Web yourself to find the answers!

You don't "get" an IQ. You have natural ability you inherited, and you can enhance it by reading, learning to play an instrument, and exposing yourself to cultural activities like art, music, dance.
It doesn't matter what age you are, you can have a high score and still be behind others in other areas. For example, you can lack social skills but be really smart- that's why some bright people are considered geeks. You can have an IQ of 143 and be a garbageman, if you choose not to exercise your talents.
The only tests that are considered accurate must be administered by a trained professional- usually someone with a masters or PhD in psychology. If your high score is from a school test or from the internet, it is very likely not accurate.
The test used for children and adolescents- Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children or WISC- is not considered to be as accurate as the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale or WAIS.
Your score basically says you have potential- it's up to you to meet your potential.
Most people who are truly gifted display this in their toddlerhood, so your chances of being the next Einstein may be less that you hope, but who knows? Human potential is a most wonderful thing.
I was a gifted child and my parents found it very difficult to deal with. All four of my children tested above normal and have very diverse interests, but that didn't stop one of them from dropping out of college. I always planned to get advanced degrees but now that my kids are grown, I have just gone back to college and will finally have that PhD in June, so it's never too late to learn and grow.
Don't be afraid to be above average- you get to meet interesting people. But don't assume it makes us better than anyone else- it doesn't. If the world was full of geniuses, no one would want to work at McDonald's or the coffee and pizza shops- and nothing would get done because everyone would be thinking about better ways to do it! LOL

142 is a high IQ, so in that sense it is not "normal". It certainly is not "average" either - average is 100. However, it is certainly nothing to worry about - a high IQ is a great asset. Make the most of it!

Incidentally, it is about the same as mine, so you are in good company :-)

That's the same score that I tested at. It's better than normal. But if it was the Tickle IQ test, you should try a few others, just to be sure. (If you pay money to get the Full Report, then you have to deduct 10 points from your IQ score.)

Ok, an answer to your question could be this ~
'Your the one with the high IQ, so we should be asking you.'

So, you had an IQ test and they told you your score, BUT not what it meant....!

Mmmm. I suspect that it is somewhat 'above average,' but don't let it go to your head.

Sash.
