No, she'll be furious with you. You can never make a comment about a girl's body weight, ever. She'll never forgive you and she'll be overly sensitive every time you mention food or physical activity. Instead suggest that you guys starting hiking more or working out together. Tell YOU're starting to feel lazy but you want to spend time with her so the two of you should go to the gym together. By presenting a pretense of being together she'll likely agree and start getting into shape. Don't make her an issue at all, make it all about you and wanting to be with her. She might see through it, but at least you can defend yourself by saying you just thought it might be something you two could do together. Good luck!

Are we talkin one GF to another? I wouldn't come right out and tell her...Hey Girl, your gettin a lil thick around the thighs... No, not cool. What you do is this.. Tell her that you've been wanting to do some tone training and ask her to be your walking/jogging/etc buddy... use the excuse that you could really use her company to keep you motivated. Chances are she already knows she's gettin chunky and will reply with what a great idea you have....

Physical attraction is an important part of a relationship. My best friend's girlfriend has gained lover 50 pounds since they started dating, this is 3 years ago. She used to be very attractive... not anymore. He struggles and has cheated on her already a couple times. I cant blame him.
Since when did it became acceptable that once we are in love we expect the other one to love us no matter what and we use and abuse this to overlook our weight, looks, manners and politeness? Seriously!
My answer to your question is: it depends on how fat. Less than 10 pounds, no biggie.. more than that, I would probably just dump her.

I think a loving, kind person wouldn't mention "fat" but would instead plan some physically activities like tennis or jogging and start leading a more active lifestyle, and include the gf.

Politely tell her that you're concerned more for her health than the fact that she's getting fat. Even being just "overweight" poses a health risk. If she gets in a hissy fit about it, just remind her that if you didn't care about her, they you wouldn't have said anything.

maybe she is upset about you and her boyfriend talking about her getting fat behind her back. And define "fat" you don't just go from skinny to fat unless your a runway model and eat a whole tootsie roll at one sitting.

i would drag her to the gym with me. we'd go for walks after dinner. i'd cook healthy meals for myself and for her.
Relationships are for sharing...right? It's terrible of me to sit there and point my finger and go "god you're fat". Whatever we do, we should do together.
Of course, I'd also tackle her and squeeze her love handles and call her Fatty McFatterson, but that's because i'm an asshole, not because i'm a loving guy.

no, if you are in a relationship that is stable you should be able to talk about anything. There are nice ways of saying it. Who knows maybe he will go WITH YOU to the gym? Hope I helped :)

I wouldn't... but i might suggest some outdoor activities more often.. like going for walks, bike rides, swims etc....
No sense in telling her she is getting cottage cheesey... better to just do something to help her out :-p
