There is the oft-quoted saying about age just being a number... and that is true. But what age often represents can indicate some major differences. And hoenstly, given your age, 12 years is probably going to represent too much of a hurdle for a real relationship. The key issue is that at 17, you are in school, and are either looking towards college and/or trying to start establishing yourself in the world. At 29, he has established himself and is working. In short, you each live in two different realities right now, and that as you go through the next few years of your life, you will likely discover some possible paths you may want to explore that lead in very different directions (in short, 12 years is much less of a difference for a 42 year old and a 30 year old).

Of course, any such difference ultimately comes down to the individuals. Before you decide if you want to persue this, think very carefully about what your life may be like when you are 29, and how compatible that is with your life right now. You may decide following your heart is still a good thing, but make sure you invovle your head first and make an informed choice.

Good luck.

the only thing wrong with it is that you are a minor. My husband is 12 years older than i (20-32) so i understand.

if it works then it works for you. there are married people with greater age gaps than 12 years! me and my man has more than 12 years of gap and its working alrite now! try to enjoy it, age is just a number, if you really like him, it shouldnt bother you at all! good luck!

follow your heart, but the age difference will be one of the biggest problems you two will have. Plus, if you stick together, he will die first.
