How would you interpret the role of Emily in 'Our Town'?

I'm doing a dramatic monologue from 'Our Town' in a high school district drama competition (specifically the section toward the end, where she keeps trying to speak to her mother but she cannot hear Emily).

I just figured I'd get second, third opinions... How would you interpret Emily? How did her personality come off towards you, and how would you portray her?

If you ask your peers, they may have a good opinion perhaps it is good way to discuss your opinions together as a group, and you will strengthen your love to your work. You parents or close people.
