For me, it's just a habit when I can't think of what I want to say fast enough. A filler word I guess. It's not that I'm dumb, or don't know the answer to anything. I'm just a bad with conversations and stumble over words easily.

It started in Southern California's San Fernando Valley. Or As I like to Call it. HELL. young rich white girls known as "Valley Girls" used it in this context around the late seventies early eighties. It worked it's way south into Los Angeles making its way into local converstion then ultimately into hollywood scripts and screenplays, television, what have you. Witch in turn influenced the rest of the country via the airwaves. "It's kinda like you know, whatever."

It's a word with a point of view. They use the word like to show or act out what was said instead of just telling what was said.

Um, talk about a generalization.
That only applies to the retarded bunch of American teenage citizens--
-- and it originated from excessive amounts of bleach seeping into pores of the scalp.
Which is also why blondes have more fun.

the wrong usage was was used in the 1950s through jazz culture, but was widely introduced in 1982 following the song "Valley Girls" (hence why using like in that sense is called valley speak) by Frank Zappa.

The reason this is said all the time is because teenagers have low self esteem so by saying "like" they are trying to comfort what they are saying and make it sound normal.

They say it because when they say the word "like" they do not have to use their brain to describe something. It is a way of being lazy with your words.
