My husband & I just moved. We don't have any friends in the area.
The only family we have here is my husband's cousin & her husband. When we decided to move here, they promised to help
us. She promised to watch our kids whenever we needed it.
We only asked twice. The first time she turned us down
when we first asked with a good reason. The second time was for a very important function for my husband's job this Saturday.
It's an awards thing. he's getting a big award. Has to make a speech. It's black tie. His boss said be there or don't come back to work ever to everyone who works there. She said she'd watch them 2 weeks ago. We reminded her Monday. she said she'd still
watch them. We RSVPed for dinner and everything. Now, she calls and says she can't because her husband is going out of town for work and she wants to go to. We called his work (he's not going out of town.) Should we tell her off and disown her
because my husband could lose his job. (Can't get another sitter.)

Well Poo Poo on her ! Sounds like alot of SOUR GRAPES going on and the cousin is jealous that you two obviously are doing better than they expected you would . Time to go to the neighbors and find out if anyone knows a reliable , dependable , babysitter ASAP !!! Check out a local church daycare and let them help with the delima . As far as confrontation with family,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,FORGET IT-----Never a good idea . It will cause the biggest riff you have ever known . It is apparently to your favor not to let them know how this situation worked out for you . Cause if they are trying to throw a monkey wrench into your plans they will be biting at the bit to find out how misserable they made you . Where there is a WILL there is a WAY . Spite despizes kindness .

You're in a tough situation, but your only way out is to stay home with your kids while your hubby goes to the affair and gets his award.
He can always make the excuse that one of the children was ill and you were unable to make it.
They boss is really only concerned that he be there to get his award.
As far as his cousins are concerned, considered it a lesson well learned and stay on a civil, but not personal level from now on, since you know they can't be trusted to keep their word.

Throw her over the curb!!!!l..Now that's a lesson well taught..Don't get together with them anymore but still have respect for them for the cause of Ur husband...They r still his family members whether we like it or not....And for the sitter situation ,you can find someone that will help...they r plenty of good people out there but we just need to look harder!!!

Yes, you can get another sitter. Call an agency and check their references. Your husband's cousin should have more respect for herself than she obviously has. What does your husband say? Why isn't he standing up to his cousin? After all, it is his family.

It may be less stressful to hire a babysitter.I would'nt want my kids to go to no one that I had to force or practaclly beg to care for them .The kid just might end up abused that way. Hire a babysitter through a nanny service and get a nannycam. GOOD LUCK!

I would just let it go without comment, but I definitely would NEVER ask them for anything again. Try a babysitiing service. They are usually on the up and up with alot of references.
