What flea products or home remedies are safe to use on 4 week old puppies? Is Frontline safe on the dam if she is still nursing?

First treating the dam is most important. Frontline is safe to use on nursing moms. As far as the puppies go they are too young for flea products. Sudsing them up with a gentle soap free puppy shampoo will get most of the fleas off. Make sure you rinse the puppies well and blow dry them on low so they dont get chilled. If you dont keep the fleas off the puppies they can become anemic and die.You can also remove some of the fleas with a fine tooth baby comb or by sticking the fleas with masking tape.

There aren't really any flea products to use on puppies that young. I don't know if the mother would excrete Frontline through her milk but the puppies would most likely rub up against it on her skin and could get sick. Frontline should say on the packaging whether or not it's safe to use on nursing dams. If so, be careful she doesn't get any of it on the puppies. As for the puppies, use a flea comb to gently remove the fleas daily until they're old enough to be treated.

Don't use anything on the puppies. Treat the Dam with Advantage and Capstar. This treatment will go through to the puppies and they will be fine. I would also give the mother brewers yeast with garlic pills. This is a supplement that you can find in the pet section of Walmart.

DO NOT USE SEVAN DUST NEAR THOSE PUPS!!! IT ISN"T SAFE!!!!

Despite the label, Advantage (*NOT* Advantix) can be used on very young puppies. In theory so can Frontline, but what I'd do with that is treat the mother. Most OTC flea products are *not* shown to be safe on puppies that young.

Fleas are a major pest. There are various species of fleas - cat fleas, dog fleas, rat fleas and rabbit fleas.
You can get rid of them by the safest and cheapest methods like boric acid.

You can use the old fashioned flea dip by using warm water with yeast. I wouldn't chance using chemicals around the pups while they are nursing.
