I am a single mother.
I Work.
and I go to School.
I don't need money, but
I also have a good job which i am stable at
that requires no education.

I want to let one go....

In your opinion, would you leave work or School.

I value an education, but because i have a young daughter, i cannot work and attend school at the same time (daycare and shift schedule conflict)

Family is the most important, obviously. Which allows you to give the most, and best quality time with your daughter?

If you have a job that is stable and doesn't need an education further than what you have, why take time away from your daughter to go to school?

An education is primary to be successful in life, and have a good job to support yourself...if you have a job which does that, then you are sucessful by the world's standards...but in order to be successful in what really matters, you need to be there for your daughter and raise her well...not let someone else do that for you while you are too busy balancing your schedule.

School is always there, you can always go back later.

If learning and education are so important to you, there are other ways to learn. Read, do new things with your daughter, research, explore life.

Before you quit one, find out if there's a way to do both.

Go right away to you guidance counselor at the school and tell them your problem and you want to know if they have any solutions.

Find out if your school offers independent study courses and if it does, do an independent study course because you don't have to meet with your professor often.

Find out if your school offers online classes. Many schools offer at least a few courses online.

Do an internship next semester. You can do an internship often earning you up to 12 credits. Choose an internship at which you will be PAID (like a job) and it substitutes as both your education and your work. See if the internship coordinator can work out a way that the credits count towards your major (not just elective credits)

If you have to let your job go because of the internship, tell them its only temporarily and you want your job back at the end of the semester(see if they can work with you on that)

If it were up to me and I pursued ALL the options and I could not do both in any way shape or form, I would go ahead and quit my job. Your education is MUCH more important than a job and students loans will have to cover your daughter's needs until you are done with school. If you do go the school route then make sure you take a FULL load since you won't have a job and try to plow through this quickly!!!!

My little brother who is 19 started a 4 year college degree last year and will be done with it this summer. He's gone Fall-Winter Spring-Sumer and is going Fall-Winter Spring-Summer again and he's done! less than 2 years! He takes 18 credits per semester.

Have you tried to enroll in a "distance learning" program? Many community colleges and other Universities now offer programs that you can take a substantial amount of classes over the internet. I went through 80% of my schooling with a disabled child and single mother, working in a management position making very good money, and got my degree in less than 2 1/2 years. I only had to go to an on site campus to take the exams. Look into the schools around you to see if it is an option. Maybe cut back on the amount of classes that you are taking. Just an idea. Good Luck, be strong and YOU CAN DO IT!!!

With school you get an education that you can fall back on. With work you just gain work experience, but have to start all over again with a new job.

With work you have money, but not so much while you are a student in school, BUT the money is greater with more education.

Stick it out with school, and eventually the hard times will become a day in the past.

Single moms are statistically the poorest people. the more education you get, the more money you make. Go to school. A good education for yourself is the best gift you can give your daughter. You will be serving as a role model for her. What advice would you give her when she is 18 -- work or go to school and get a good education? If money is not an issue, go to school. It won't be any easier to do later in life.

Wow that's a tough one. I also go to school and work, however, I don't have any kids. You can't leave your job, that would be silly. I would talk to your academic adviser, see what the school can offer you. You may be able to take some courses over the Internet. You may be able to take one or two courses as opposed to full-time student which requires a minimum of 12 credits. It will take you longer but in the long run you would still be able to maintain your job and your status as a student. Good luck.

Try to work something out where you can do both if at all possible. See if you can get your work schedule changed to help with the day care problem and take only a few classes, maybe night classes. Also some professors don't mind if you have a child in class as long as she is quiet and stays in the back. I left school and I regret it now and its so much harder to get back in school.

Listen. Dont quit your work because they might not want you back again, or take off hours because its important to put food on the table.

But dont quit on school either, and heres how you do it.
Take some time off from school right now; like a semester or a year, until your daughter is old enough for school, or until you can find a class schedule that doesn conflict.

You see, you can never quit school, but you can delay it. No matter how old you get, you can always learn something new. Think of it as a small vacation.

If you are happy at the job you have and it is satisfying all your needs, Why go to school to learn how to do something else that you are not sure if you will like or not? If you are happy with life as it is, stay with it. An education cannot guaranty happiness in a new Field of employment

If you don't need the money than school might be the smart way to go b/c after you get an education you can get a better job. But if you need them money than unfortunatly you should stay with the job.
