I was a born-again christian for 20 years, and was witnessing to a friend of mine who said, "If you can show me where a god-man died and rose for his people again on cave writings, or in some other mythos, I'll believe." he had a problem with people dying and going to hell who had never heard of Jesus.

So, I set out to prove Jesus to him, and found that I could no longer believe in Jesus.. not just because of the common god-man myth throughout time, but because of the total lack of historical evidence of Jesus' existence. Like many, I had assumed that he was a real person, historically based. I was wrong.

I then began researching the accuracy (or inaccuracy) of the bible, and was disappointed there too. I then began to look at the historical events of the christian church and saw a common theme of hate, bigotry, and delusion. I just couldn't go back after that.

Never really had faith in God, and most of my life I knew I was an atheist, even if I didn't know what atheism was until I was 15. One of the pivotal moments was in my childhood when a home-schooled friend down the street told me "did you know the earth is only 6000 years old and we didn't evolve from apes?" Regardless of the fact we didn't evolve directly from apes, I was really shocked that anyone could believe that; it seemed similar to saying the earth is flat and the sun orbits us. Even though I was only about 9, evolution made far more sense than creationism. Unlike most kids my age, the Discovery Channel was more interesting to me than most everything else on TV. I always felt an akward hostility from that family, and it seemed like they were constantly trying to push their beliefs on me since my parents were letting me figure things out for myself, and we didn't go to church, or pray before meals, etc.

No, there was no particular event. I just read philosophy, religion, theology, history, science, the Bible, mythology, psychology and wound up an atheist. I am currently reading what historians have to say about early Christianity as well as the findings of Biblical scholars. Have a great evening!

I found God through physics.

I also learned that Christianity, like most religions, contains some core truths but also many distortions of truth that has led many astray.

I realized that atheists and evolutionists are as blind by their beliefs as any religious zealots are.

And that the vast majority of people don't realize that science and spirituality are in agreement and on the verge of unlocking a real understanding of the nature of creation and our place in it.

The truth is out there.

There are so many events that proved to me that there is a God and to have Faith in him that I could not possibly list them....

I lost faith in god when I was in 7th grade. I believed Lucifer was the only one who would be able to help me because it was said that he promotes Questioning, Asking, Reasoning, and your own beliefs.

It took me years of searching before I realized how easy it actually was to live in service to God. I just asked Him to help me and I've been learning more about Him and myself since then.

I felt nothing, I found no proof and derived no positive from my religion. I found myself much happier switching to belief only in philosophy and science.
