99% of the time people claim to be fighting for what they believe in, they're just being cliche. Most people who are able to answer questions on this website are actively able to practice what they believe in and don't have to fight for it. It's just macho posturing.
And can anybody really take away your beliefs? The way I see it, they can only take away the ritual.
That aside, if I really DID have to fight what I believe in, then, I'll abandon those beliefs. As a Subgenius and DEVOtee, my beliefs are to not believe in things that make life difficult.

Fighting for what you believe in is only as good as the cause. Some people affected by delusions waste so much for the wrong things. They mean well but in the long run their efforts are pointless. Some people fight because they feel the need to help. I.e. individuals who are against pro-choice are fighting for a potential child's life. The other side fights because no one should have the right to tell a woman what she can do and who she brings into this world. You could argue about it/fight about it/ attack doctors and clinics that cater to it...so...
...to answer your question people fight in the hope to bring about change that they feel is necessary. If you don't fight for what you believe then you are subject to witness or experience things which you may dislike. But like I said some things aren't worth fighting for so you don't like Shakira SO WHAT. Get a life and move on.

Christians don't have to fight for what they believe in. We know there is no reason to fight as we know what the truth is. Besides, fighting goes against the teachings of Jesus anyway, so if someone professes to be a Christian and they are fighting for what they believe in, they need to go back to the cross (the basics).
However, we can grieve for the people who do not want the truth because we know what will happen when the person dies without Jesus.
Additionally, there will come a time that everyone knows what the truth is.
God's word says in Romans 14:10-13
10 But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ.
11 For it is written:
“ As I live, says the LORD,
Every knee shall bow to Me,
And every tongue shall confess to God.”
12 So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.
13 Therefore let us not judge one another anymore, but rather resolve this, not to put a stumbling block or a cause to fall in our brother’s way.
All we can do is simply state what truth is. A true Christian knows they cannot force another to believe. We are to just carry the word and then its between God and the person who hears the word.

Before taking up arms, you must know whether it is morally right and what you are fighting for.
Is the battle worth the price?
The purpose of this unique fight is clarified by the apostle Paul in his letter to Timothy: “Fight the fine fight of the faith.” Yes, in this war you must defend, not a fortress, but “the faith”—the sum of Christian truth as revealed in the Bible. Clearly, you must believe “the faith” implicitly to fight for it and win.—1Â Timothy 6:12.
Material weapons as well as human cunning and trickery are useless against this adversary. (2Â Corinthians 10:4)
A full suit of figurative armor is provided for your protection. You can find an inventory of this suit of armor at Ephesians 6:13-18. A wary soldier will not venture out if some of his spiritual armor is missing or in need of repair.
A Christian needs all his protective armor, but the large shield of faith is particularly valuable. That is why Paul wrote: “Above all things, take up the large shield of faith, with which you will be able to quench all the wicked one’s burning missiles.”—Ephesians 6:16.
The large shield, which could cover the entire body, represents the quality of faith.
And unlike worldly wars, the outcome for us in this battle is assured as long as we remain faithful
We dont avenge anyone or engage in protests or political activities....we have full hope of gods kingdom...
romans 12:9 says:>>>>>Â Do not avenge yourselves, beloved, but yield place to the wrath; for it is written: “Vengeance is mine; (says jehovah

Personally I don't care if people believe what I do or not .. I just wish that people would realize whats right for them is not necessarily right for the next guy.
If there is no freedom of choice this world will be a scary place. Peace :-)

If you don't know, then you will not understand. It also depends on what you mean exactly. Do you mean verbal fighting when religious views are attacked? Or physically fighting for your country?
