rm files open with RealPlayer/RealOne. However, RealPlayer is a program of questionable quality (first hand experience to confirm this) that tampers with the system.
The solution is to use Real Alternative (http://www.free-codecs.com/download/Real_Alternative.htm ) which gives you the ability to play rm files without harming your system.

Only Real Player opens .rm files. .rm means real media.

Install VLC viewer, it can open a lot of formats
