I use the journey planner on this site all the time:
http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/times_fares/

It'll give you train times & then the fare options down below.
Don't use the 'quick planner' though as that only seems to give info on one-way journeys.

If you were travelling tomorrow & leaving after 9:30 you could get a saver return for £24.90 - no need to book in advance.

If you want to leave before 9:30 then the fare price jumps to £41.20!

So if you plan to travel out from London before 9:30, it may be cheaper to get two single tickets - as the return journey if travelling off-peak seems to only cost £12.90! (London to Eastbourne single £20.60 - so saving just over £7 if I've worked it out right)

Hope you have a pleasant trip.

i'm a signaller on the railway on the line between Leeds and Sheffield. All i will say is that trains have been working on my line. i could think of that trains have been working anyplace attainable as we often type it as a typical day. Sorry i could no longer help anymore.

Go to whatever train company's website you're planning to travel with and take it from there.
