but if a white person says it, it becomes racist. I could understand if the word was never said, but when they call eachother that what kind of message does that send? I am trying to understand why it's ok for them to call eachother that if white people can't say it. Please respond with an intelligent answer. Thanks!

This question is irrelevant, it's ridiculous how many times this question is asked. The fact of the matter is that it shouldn't be used no matter what your race is or where you come from. Does it matter why people say it, why would you want to use that word anyway? You need to find a more constructive way to use your time instead of dwelling on such ignorance such as wondering why you can't use racist words towards other people.

This really has absolutely nothing to do with singles and dating.

Anyways... not all black people say the N word. I don't and I don't condone anyone else saying it. But, the difference is SOME black people have kinda adopted the term and turned it in to something positive amongst the black community. Basically saying something like "thats my n!gga", is like saying "thats my good friend". You'll hear it in a lot of rap music these days. But, no... not all blacks say the word.

Now, when a white person says it... they say "n!gger" and its pretty much always meant to be the racial slur that it is. A lot of it has to do with intent.

Either way... no one should say it. Then that would stop all confusion.

No one should be using it really. Wait, you mean some of you WANT to start using that word again??? That tells me alot about your character. I'm black I hate when even black people use it. For the blacks who chose to use it, it's a way to relate to eachother from within the culture. Whites oppressed, tortured, molested, repeatedly raped and worked till exhaustion Blacks for a large chunk of time (300 years) so, no, being white does not grant you the right to use it. ----The whites who want to use it or are apathetic to using it are just deliberately insensitive and ignorant to our culture and our history (which is why they are confused and angered about the discretion anyways). ---So it's not only wise if you don't use it, it's plain out sense of respect and dignity. Whites or other races who use it have neither.

Well , first off, the word is used in different forms world wide. It basically means black, or ***** . It was used to desribe any one of dark skin. Today we twist it to mean differnet things such as a white n*gger, which actually cast a shadow on all black people suggesting that they are something low or immoral. We also use it to describe a temporary repair as in n*gger rig. I think most black people are not offended by the word, but more on how it's used.

Why is it ok for a white person to be called whitey of honky by a black?

I think name calling is fine, but you better know who you're talkin to. Don't use n*gger to put someone down for their color, but its ok to call your black friend by that. Oh, and that slavery stuff, I doubt if there are any slaves left, most of us are all born free but some turn them self into slaves through drugs.

Best thing is to be polite, address people propperly like sir or miss or mister.

I had to replace "i" with "*" because yahoo sensors that word

its all really stupid and its getting kinda old...personally i dont take offense to the n word anymore. i asked myself "what does it mean?". its nothing but a word that was used to make a black person feel powerless or insignificant-thats why its wrong to call any black person the n word because it goes back to where blacks were not treated as humans. its extremely disrespectful.

as far as blacks calling each other the n word- dont worry bout it. its used in a different way. blacks obviously wouldnt try to make another black feel like an ape by calling them a name because of gthe color of their skin. understand?

my question is why do white people care so much about the n word? let it go.

If a white person says it, they're "racist". Whatever. If, we can't say it, they shouldn't be allowed to say it either. Have you ever listened to rap? That's every other word. And, no one says nothing about it. Even if a white person said it in a non offensive way, they still say it's "racist". For example, they call us "crackers". Does anyone get mad about that, or say it's racist? No. It's the same as calling them n*gger. It's not right either way. Hope this helps!

I'm biracial and that word was never brought up in my household and when i hear blacks saying it to each other it sounds like it is normal but i have heard white people say it and it sounds more like name calling i don't know i guess the same as two white people saying you redneck mo**** f*****and they don't say anything but laugh let a black person say it and you guessed it Rodney King all over again

That's a very good question. I guess black people are highly racist themselves, because they can call each other a nickname, but when a Eurasian does it, he's suddenly a racist.

I guess in answer to your question, it's a personal clique thing. Like, within the clique, they're all brothers and whatnot so they can call each other whatever they like, but when a white man comes into the equation, he is treated with slightly more hostility.

I'm not entirely sure, to be honest...

For black people to call each other something that is supposed to be a insult to them, they are, in a way, adopting the word as their own. They are saying that the word can't hurt them anymore because now it's what they call each other normally.

To be honest with you, there really is no explanation or excuse. If it's that hurtful, black people shouldn't use it either. I look at it like the childhood rhyme "Sticks and Stones," words can't hurt you, so people should take the power away from those useless six letters.
