I personally love using hair extensions but it is really strange how almost every beauty supply store sells them but from whom are they getting all the hair. A friend questioned if the hair is removed form corpses just after they die. I have heard of people selling their hair but I can't imagine that many people are selling their hair to get the great quantities that are sold everyday, all over the world.

its donated, mainly from poor women in Asia. i remember when i did my hairdressing training and we had doll heads with real hair and we had to pick all the dead nits out, ewwww.
always make sure when you buy the extensions the hair was donated willingly (will say on the pack) as many people in the poorer regions of the world actually scalp young orphan children a and sell the hair.

In Eastern Europe for instance, in some post-soviet (and probably many other) countries with lousy economy, u can find tons of adds offering "good" price for chemically untreated long hair. Usually hair dressers buy it -women with longer hair go and have it cut there, if they r really desperate OR maybe if they just suddenly decided to change their hairstyle drastically:)
I am pretty sure it's then being exported to where the demand is big.
And HEY think of all the nuns who are getting their hair cut when initiated... not sure about this part though:)

They do not collect hair from corpses. That's a ridiculous theory. Hahahaha. There are companies such as "Locks of Love" that collect hair. People who grow their hair out long & decide to chop a good amount off, often donate their hair to Locks of Love. Most cheap whigs & extensions are made from horse hair.

some people sell there hair as a way 2 make $ and get a cut.some of the hair is the hair used when people get theres cut.

People sell their hair when they're hard up for cash, much like they sometimes sell their blood to blood banks or "donate" sperm to sperm banks. It is an easy source of cash and a renewable resource. It will always grow back. Money is all that motivates them.

people do sell their hair also people donate hair to cancer fund raisers. and other organizations. I am quite sure they dont use dead people's hair!
